“We want every Texan with an interest in attending TCU to feel like it’s possible,”
said Castro. “Affordability shouldn’t be a barrier to dreaming big.”
TCU has launched TCU for Texans, a financial aid initiative that provides full-tuition support and housing and assistance for food and housing to qualifying first-year students in the Lone Star State. Applicants whose families earn $70,000 or less in adjusted gross income (AGI) may be eligible for the initiative. To answer questions families may have, read the Q&A with Assistant Vice Provost and Dean of Admission Mandy Castro.
How do I qualify for the TCU for Texans scholarship?
To be eligible for the program, you must:
- Be a Texas resident
- Be a first-year applicant
- Qualify for need-based aid such as the Pell Grant
- Have a household income of $70,000 or less in AGI
Do I need to submit a separate application for TCU for Texans?
No separate application is required. If students meet the criteria and submit required financial aid applications by November 1, they’ll be automatically considered.
What's the deadline to be considered?
November 1 is the priority deadline to complete your TCU application, file the FAFSA or TASFA and file the CSS Profile.
What does “full tuition” cover? Does it include fees, housing, meals or books?
TCU for Texans covers full tuition and provides assistance for food and housing. The exact amounts are determined annually. Students are responsible for fees, books and other expenses unless those expenses are covered by other scholarships and/or financial aid.
Can I still receive other scholarships and financial aid?
We’re investing in futures, and we want Texans to know we’re serious about that. While expenses like transportation and textbooks aren’t covered, students remain eligible for additional outside scholarships and merit-based awards, provided overall funding stays within program limits.
Does TCU for Texans aid renew each year?
This is about supporting students year after year, not just at the point of entry. The support is renewable annually for up to four years, provided recipients maintain satisfactory academic progress and ongoing eligibility through the FAFSA or TASFA.
What happens if my family’s income goes above $70,000 after I apply or start college?
Minimal income fluctuations will not affect your financial aid. As long as you have the remaining need to cover the total aid offered, no adjustments will be made. If your circumstances do change, reach out to our Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid.
Where can I find more information?
Please contact the Office of Scholarships and Student Financial Aid at financialaid@tcu.edu or 1-800-TCU-FROG if you have questions or need guidance, especially if navigating the process for the first time.
