Course Transferability
Credit Transfers and GPA
TCU will accept credits you have earned a C- or better from regionally-accredited institutions. Courses which do not transfer to TCU include the following:
- Courses in which a grade lower than “C-” was earned
- Courses considered to be developmental (e.g., orientation, time management, library skills) or remedial (e.g., those in English, math and reading)
- Vocational-Technical courses
Equivalency Guides
All Equivalencies are non-binding and subject to change. Each department will determine how classes transfer toward their degree plans.
- Transfer Equivalency Tool: Search for equivalencies between courses completed at other schools and TCU courses.
- Transfer Equivalency Guide
Use this guide to review core requirements. All Texas community colleges (including Tarrant County College) and many state universities in Texas use the Texas Common Course numbering system used in this document. Out-of-state public and private Universities may have different course numbers but can compare course titles.
A total of 58 semester hours in residence must be successfully completed to earn a TCU degree, regardless of number of credit hours transferred. Upon reaching 54 college hours, students must declare a major field of study. Only 66 hours from another accredited institution may be credited toward the TCU degree. No more than 8 semester hours of physical education activity courses may be applied toward graduation requirements.
The following equivalent courses are from the Texas Common Course number equivalency guide. Although most academic course work taken will transfer, these particular classes will fulfill TCU Core requirements and requirements for the Business School. These classes are not required to transfer to TCU, but only courses that can be transferred to TCU. Course equivalency is subject to change.

Courses may transfer as TCU Core, elective or, as determined by academic deans, major field requirements. For more information about the TCU Core Curriculum, refer to the current Undergraduate Studies Catalog.
New transfer students should meet the following GPA requirements for entrance into the Pre-health program:
Transferring from a 2-year college
If you have taken biology and chemistry, you’ll need a 3.5 GPA in introductory chemistry
and biology courses, and a cumulative GPA of 3.7. If you have not taken biology and
chemistry, you’ll need a cumulative 3.8 GPA.
Transferring from a 4-year college
If you have taken biology and chemistry, you’ll need a 3.2 GPA in introductory chemistry
and biology courses, and a cumulative GPA of 3.5. If you have not taken biology and
chemistry, you’ll need a cumulative 3.7 GPA.
The average entering GPA for medical, dental and vet schools is almost always in the 3.6-3.8 range, and very few applicants are accepted with a GPA of less than 3.3. These are minimum requirements and in no way guarantee acceptance.
The HPAC Committee recommendations students
- Transfer after their first year of college, as the pre-health track typically takes three years to complete
- Take all chemistry classes at TCU*
- Take Biology for Science Majors I & II and General Physics I & II the first year
*If a student has not had a strong foundation of chemistry in high school, or has not taken chemistry in the last five years, it is suggested that the student enroll in Chemistry I, at either a community college or their current institution, as preparation for first semester chemistry at TCU. If a student wishes to prepare this way, the class will not count as Chemistry 10113 at TCU, however, medical, dental and vet schools will count this grade in their pre-requisite GPA.
